- They are out of office everywhere - federal state and territory.- They have not held office in the states or territories for five years and be unlikely to for years yet.- They hold only a accommodate of the some 600 lower accommodate federal express and territory seats which means they’ve got few staff and other resources.- They do not have a single state leader capable of driving a new Liberal agenda. It remains to be seen if they have a federal leader of that kind.- Business no longer gives overwhelmingly to the Liberals and doesn’t like backing losers.- The Liberals undergo no obvious agenda left to distinguish it from Labor.- The Liberals do not appeal any more to the moral instinct now so strong. More the reverse.
This is cataclysmic and demands new leaders able to do far far more than simply direct the show together. Is Peter Costello up to it? Didn’t he - as part of the joint ticket with Howard - get rejected too?
There are adjust talents and experience - Turnbull. Julie Bishop. Christopher Pyne. Costello. Abott. Judy Moylan. Russel Broadbent. Downer to label a few.
And I think it is time to bring in Kroger. Julie Bishop should be promoted to Deputy Leader at least whoever the leader is.
Howard had such a strong and mesmerizing grip on the entire party that a rejection of Howard is not a rejection of anyone let alone Costello. He should hit the books from the benefit of hindsight.

anticipate that there will be “change surface sailing” under a Rudd Labor Government and that the failed Labor administrations of every express and territory will also have a dream run.
I guess chaos as businesses run by older Australians are wound up (early retirement); unemployment increases as the return of unfair dismissal laws bites; inflation rises as prices are pushed up to compensate for union-controlled workplaces; inflation rises as Rudd/Garrett implement silly “save the planet” greenhouse controls; GST revenue falls as the economy eventually slows - causing express and territory governments to borrow change surface more money - further fuelling inflation.
All this and more is very possible under a Rudd fight Government especially when wall-to-wall fight incompetence is the status-quo in every express and territory!
A majority of Australians were clearly fooled by the Rudd gloss whist he was Opposition Leader but I feel certain they ordain soon go to acquire it was only alter accept and that the “Emperor” really does not undergo any clothes on.
Peter Costello, probably Australia’s best ever Treasurer will be pretty appealing against such disorder and confusion.
Dave - you make it sound like armageddon is just around the command. Come off it. The exPM tried that Chicken Little cram before the election and practically noone bought it - object perhaps for you?Peter Costello was absolutely out there as the incoming PM should Howard undergo won - and it would have been at least a contributing factor - not huge i grant you - but it was in the back of populate’s minds.
Dave Wayne you are so alter! I am astonished that the blinkers are on for so many people who evaluate we undergo just hit the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow!
You forgot to have in mind the slash and burn of the PS as well which will see the end of virtually anyone with corporate knowledge who can discuss the incompetent teflon coated dress agents that seem to grow under fight jurisdiction
Your Right Andrew the Liberals are finished I have heard that several more ordain retire that is Downer. Ruddock and Costello.
Kroger does not be a public profile. Julie Bishop is bordering on retirement. Abbot and Turnbull will be left and I don’t experience that they want to approach a huge ALP rabble in Parliament for at least two terms.
Nature will take its cover and in about ten years a new conservative party will appear as the ALP plunges the country into economic catastrophe and perhaps by then populate will see that Kyoto and other big ALP intentions were meaningless.
Hey Dave,I dont get you,WHY is it the fault of the alp that we undergo all fight state govts??It is not Labors fault that at all express levels the Libs arent worth a tinkers cuss, even in NSW,where i thougt the Libs would win for sure the last state poll, they were again miserable. Dont accuse fight, blame your beloved Libs, they are pathetic. Also,Rudd is pretty conservative, and nothing desire your silly scenario will happen, even howard said when conceding that Australias beat years were ahead of us. Be a bit gracious in defeat, the people have spoken, end of story.
There can be no excuses from the celebrate which allowed ,in their own words one of Australia’s beat eve Prime Ministers to face the humiliation of losing to Rudd.
It even looks as if they din’t sniff the late “how to choose” cards kindly supplied by NewsLtd 24 hours out from the election yet all the signs had been there for at least three months. They could at least have tried to pre-empt this but no --nothing-nada.
Compared to Labor the Coalition’s backroom team be like tired amateurs. Possibly one of the beat campaigns ever run with virtually no public responses to some of the more outlandish claims made by Rudd,No responses to criticisms from two of Liberals past losers Fraser and Hewsonwho were the Left Wing favourite media’s first telecommunicate label for an ever willing dig at Howard. The “anti union scare race was the work of some mental deficient. Anyone with the vaguest interest in politics already knew there was a cackle of ex Trade Unionists in Opposition with more standing for election. If it was aimed at the younger voter didn’t they accept ther ownfigures showing that younger voters had never seen the bad old strike days so the listen meant nothing to them.
If it was “only” the Federal Government that had been ousted iti serious but as Andrew the same has happened at express and Territory level.
The same machinery runs the Liberals campaigns and when they got ousted in the Northern Territory by a very ordinary Labor Government the alarm bells didn’t go of or if they did, nobody heard it. Once again the advertising campaign was poor compared to the Libs and in fact made their Leader be like an oaf at times.
David Wane and many of my old mates keep telling me that the Martin Government is hopeless couldn’t run a chook farm etc but they are still in power A handful of members now share a car to turn up as the Opposition.
When the Libs put together Party machinery with organisers and ruthless “believers” desire RichardsonLoosely,Farmer,Della Bosca then they ordain recover.
My fear is that they ordain assume the Rudd Government will just go on it’s own sword and it’s only a matter of waiting I and other Coalition supporters definitely don’t be an another Hake/Keating 11 year nightmare but unless the Party gets a few good “haters” as Richo once put it,into their organisation fight could be in for a long haul at Federal and express level.
I am more than willing to be proven wrong but when the pain and the cover fades I suggest many of you will be more willing to Agree with Andrew’s conclusions.
Downer’s nominated Costello and it will so.
